Why I Don’t Love Personality Tests (and What I Trust Instead)
Everyone seems to have a type these days — ENFP, 7w8, High D, Low C.
I’ve taken them all. And every time, I feel a quiet rebellion rise in me.
Because no four letters can hold the fullness of a human being.
Not the way your voice changes when you talk about something you love.
Not the way you soften when someone really listens.
Not the contradictions, the seasons, the mystery of being alive.
I understand why organizations love these tools — they give structure, a language for teamwork, a sense of predictability. But what I’ve seen in my coaching work is this: people aren’t predictable. They’re relational. They expand and contract. They evolve.
Maybe the more important question isn’t “What type are you?” but “Who are you becoming?”
Who are you when you’re rested, inspired, connected?
Who are you when you stop trying to fit the profile and start listening to your own presence?
That’s where I do my best work — helping people rediscover the voice beneath the label.
Because you’re not a type. You’re a story still being written.
